78' | It's another standing ovation. Danny O'Brien has been awesome on that right flank, and he gets a breather now;replaced by Craig Mahon— Chester FC (@ChesterFC) March 8, 2016
It was a night to remember for Chester at the Lookers Vauxhall Stadium as they brushed aside Aldershot Town in style with an 8-2 victory thanks to four goals from James Alabi, and braces for Sam Hughes and Ross Hannah.
Latics midfielder Danny O'Brien helped Steve Burr's side on their way, creating two goals, one for Alabi and the other for Hannah as Chester moved up to 15th in the National League on 43 points, eight clear of Altrincham who occupy the final relegation place in 21st.
TORQUAY UNITED 0 BRAINTREE TOWN 0 - DAN LAVERCOMBE
A chance for the visitors as Lavercombe saves and the ball is scrambled clear by Berry in front of goal... #tufc— Torquay United FC (@TUFC1899) March 8, 2016
Sticking with the National League and speaking of telling contributions, goalkeeper Dan Lavercombe helped his Torquay United side to a clean sheet and 0-0 draw against fourth place Braintree Town on Tuesday evening.
The stalemate makes it five unbeaten for the Gulls as their battle to avoid relegation continues to gather momentum, leaving them in 22nd place on 33 points, just three behind 20th place Halifax with a game in hand and three behind 19th place Boreham Wood with two games in hand.
GRIMSBY TOWN 1 SOUTHPORT 0 - RYAN JENNINGS
Rounding off the midweek action in the National League, winger Ryan Jennings featured as a 71st minute substitute in Grimsby Town's 1-0 victory over Southport.
The Mariners edged past the Sandgrounders thanks to a first minute goal from Padraig Amond, leaving them third in the division on 68 points, 10 behind second place Forest Green Rovers and 12 behind leaders Cheltenham Town, with two games in hand over both.
HUDDERSFIELD TOWN 3 READING 1 - ANDREW TAYLOR
It was a night to forget for Andrew Taylor at the John Smith's Stadium after his back pass allowed Nahki Wells to open the scoring for Huddersfield Town in their 3-1 victory over Reading in the Sky Bet Championship.
Emyr Huws remained absent for the Terriers through injury, with Taylor returning to the Royals' starting XI after a number of weeks absent from the squad. The hosts took a 3-0 lead into second half added time, with Taylor attempting to make amends by laying on Ola John for Reading's consolation.
Victory for Huddersfield puts them 18th and seven points clear of the relegation zone, whilst Reading sit 14th, 12 behind the play offs.
NANTWICH TOWN 3 COLWYN BAY 4 - SAM COSGROVE
It wouldn't be a Nantwich Town game without plenty of goals, and in the last round of the Integro Doodson Sports Cup, Sam Cosgrove netted the club's 100th goal of the season, but unfortunately for the striker and his Dabbers' team mates, Tuesday night's follow up against Colwyn Bay ended in a high scoring 4-3 defeat.
Cosgrove was introduced as a half time substitute with his side 2-1 to the good, but despite a number of chances, including a shot cleared off the line and an overhead kick going narrowly wide late on, the Development Squad front man couldn't do enough to help Nantwich's efforts at the Weaver Stadium.
HARROGATE RAILWAY 2 WITTON ALBION 2 - OWEN EVANS
Owen Evans featured for the full 90 minutes on Monday as Witton Albion drew 2-2 away at Harrogate Railway.
The draw sees Albion 14th in the Evo-Stik Division One North on 42 points, nine behind the final play off place.
