A convincing away victory at Fleetwood Town has further strengthened Latics' position as leaders of the Football League Youth Alliance, after James Barrigan, Chris Sang and Callum Lang all struck in Tuesday's 3-0 win helped Will Ryder's side to move seven points clear of the chasing pack.

Latics went into the tricky away tie unbeaten in four games, and with Barrigan scoring inside the first minute, it looked like Ryder's side were on course for their fourth victory in five games.  Fleetwood made a fist of it for a long period, but two goals in quick succession in the final 20 minutes from Sang and Lang helped Latics on their way to three more crucial points.

Two of the four trialists who featured in Saturday's 5-1 victory over Morecambe at Robin Park Arena started at Fleetwood in defence and midfield, along with Under 16 Anthony Plant and midfielder Luke Burgess who continued his recovery from a recent injury.

Barrigan made light work of the opening goal, collecting a well-fed pass from Burgess down the left side to break clear of Fleetwood's defence, before rounding the goalkeeper for a simple finish.

Latics had to wait a while to build on their lead, but a strong passage of play produced the chance for Sang to double the advantage.

Captain Luke Burke, playing in midfield, found Sang wide left, with the striker feeding the ball back inside for Lang to then find Plant over on the opposite flank, the full back's delivery was inch-perfect to the left post, allowing Sang to simply tap the ball home for 2-0.

A third goal came shortly after, and again Latics made easy work of breaking Fleetwood down.  This time Alex Lingard's long pass was chased down by Barrigan, who helped the ball inside for Sang and in turn the striker found Lang in space at close range for 3-0.

Latics' next fixture sees them host Preston North End at Robin Park Arena on Saturday, kick off 11.00am.
