Community Trust recruiting volunteers for their programmes.
Wigan Athletic Community Trust are looking to recruit the next generation of coaches and community leaders through their newest project, Latics Leaders.
The volunteer scheme, which is part of the Pathway 2 Participation programme, will see the Trust recruit a team of 60 young people between the ages of 16 – 18 to assist in running football and sports sessions across Wigan.
In exchange for completing 20 hours volunteering young people will be rewarded with the opportunity to receive fully funded support in gaining sports qualifications.
Volunteer Co-ordinator Jon Green started out as a volunteer on the Kicks project in Atherton, before gaining full time employment with the Trust in 2014.
He said: “Volunteering with the Trust really opened my eyes into what was required to become a football coach. It helped me gain confidence to go onto university to do a degree and now I work full time at a professional football club, which is great.
“The Trust is now looking to support other young people in Wigan to gain qualifications and experience as well as helping them to be able to give something back to their own communities.”
Latics Leaders is part of the Pathway 2 Participation scheme which is funded by the Big Lottery Fund Reaching Communities programme and supported by Wigan Council.
