  • Perkins claims second award of the evening after being named Away Player of the Season.
Wigan Athletic midfielder David Perkins has been voted as the club’s 2015-16 Players’ Player of the Season by his team mates, being presented with the award at the annual Player of the Year Dinner at the DW Stadium.

The award was close fought this season with both Perkins and Max Power popular choices amongst their fellow professionals, with the 33-year-old narrowly edging the decision.

Perkins has been an almost ever-present in the team this season, missing just one of Latics’ 45 Sky Bet League One fixtures so far on the way to promotion back to the Sky Bet Championship.

Fellow award contender Power himself voted for his midfielder partner, saying:

“Perks has been an example to us all, he’s had a top season and his fitness levels are through the roof.  He’s been a major part in what we’ve achieved this season and deserves to win this award.”

Upon receiving the award, Perkins said:

“Getting recognition from my team mates really means a lot, especially when we’ve all worked so hard together to achieve promotion this season.

“This season has been perfect for me in midfield with Max and then with Sam (Morsy) coming in during the season.  Collectively we’ve clicked and it’s made every game enjoyable to be a part of.”
