Will Grigg is still on fire as supporter is gifted with season card for its popularity.
- Will Grigg chant sets social media on fire.
- Latics supporter Sean Kennedy given free season card as popularity spreads.
- Chairman David Sharpe announces news on Twitter.
At Wigan Athletic we have witnessed just how well striker Will Grigg has performed this season with his 28 goals in all competitions and 25 goals as Sky Bet League One's top goal scorer, but it looks like his name is being spread far and wide for another reason.
Already popular among Latics supporters for his earlier work 'Yanic Wildschut is running down the wing' to the tune of Heartbeat, East Stand season card holder Sean Kennedy has recently taken his social media presence to a national, if not international scale with his latest hit 'Will Grigg's on Fire' to the tune of Gala's 1990s chart song Freed From Desire.
Such has been the chant's popularity in the wider football community, that yesterday chairman David Sharpe offered Sean a season card at the DW Stadium FREE for the 2016-17 season!
Speaking about his offer, the chairman said:
"Sean has been coming up with different chants all season and towards the end of the season he came up with the Will Grigg chant and it's spread like wildfire.
"I've just been in Mallorca for the weekend and everywhere I went people were singing it. It's hard not to join in when you hear people singing it.
"I felt I had to reward him with a season card. Sean and the rest of our fans have been unbelievable this season and football clubs should always put their fans first."
For inventing the best chant ever known to man, you've earned yourself a free season ticket for next season @KennoUTJ. Will Griggs on fire 🔥— David Sharpe (@DavidSharpe91) May 16, 2016
The song itself was heard in the stands for a number of Latics' Sky Bet League One matches on the way to promotion back to the Sky Bet Championship, as well as in the streets of Wigan itself following the final game of the season against Barnsley.
It's now even inspired its own Twitter account with plenty more playing their tributes to what has to be the catchiest football chant around...
Even the Premier League champions know the score!
