Grigg presented with 2015-16 Golden Boot.
- Will Grigg wins club’s Golden Boot award with 27 goals.
- 24-year-old has netted 24 in Sky Bet League One so far this season.
- Striker could still yet end up as league’s top scorer.
Having signed from Brentford last summer, Will Grigg has gone on to become the first Latics player to score over 20 goals since one of our all-time favourites Nathan Ellington in 2005.
The Northern Ireland international scored his first Latics goal in the Capital One Cup against Bury, before grabbing his first league goal against Scunthorpe United in August. Since then Grigg has netted braces against Colchester United, Barnsley, Bury, Swindon Town, Shrewsbury Town and Southend United, as well as his first hat-trick for the club against Port Vale.
The striker has been in terrific form as of late, scoring 19 goals in his last 20 appearances, including seven from six games last month.
Heading into the weekend’s fixture against Barnsley at the DW Stadium, Grigg stands two clear at the top of the Sky Bet League One scorers list, and upon receiving the award the striker said he is delighted with his tally so far.
“It’s been the best goal scoring season of my career so far, and for my goals to have helped achieve promotion into the Championship makes each goal that bit more important.
“I’d still like to finish the season on more goals, and it would be great to end up as the league’s top goal scorer come Sunday afternoon.”
