Wigan Athletic have designated the days leading up to and including this Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship match against Derby County as TOGETHER Week.

TOGETHER is the programme which covers the work of the club, alongside the DW Stadium and the Wigan Athletic Community Trust to further embed equality and diversity in everything that we do.

The Derby County match itself will be jointly dedicated to TOGETHER and the Kick It Out, with Latics players warming up in TOGETHER t-shirts and Derby players in Kick It Out t-shirts.

TOGETHER was launched last April, when a new text helpline was established - 80-800 - while the club has also surveyed 40,000 people to heighten knowledge of our supporter base and our ability to accommodate their requirements.

Alongside the regular work carried out by the Community Trust, the organisation has run a series of training sessions for staff, supported the Wigan Pride event in August, reviewed its recruitment processes to attract more diverse applicants while the Community Trust has also appointed a new dedicated Disability Football Officer.

On the day of the Derby County match there will be a workshop with young people from the Wigan Athletic Kicks project talking about issues that affect them, while there will also be a friendly match against Derby County’s Kicks project prior to kick off and we will be giving out Kick It Out goodies in the Family Fun Zone.

Jonathan Jackson, Wigan Athletic CEO, said: “We strongly believe in what TOGETHER is seeking to achieve, promoting equality and diversity not just within our own work places, but also around the community.

“This is a permanent ethos – equality and diversity is something that the club will prioritise at all levels. It is a key principle in everything we do - including our award-winning community activities.”

Wigan Athletic Football Club, Wigan Athletic Community Trust and the DW Stadium are committed to respecting and promoting equality and diversity across all its activities through TOGETHER.
