Frank is heavily involved with Wigan Athletic's disability football teams

Wigan Athletic Community Trust volunteer Frank Melling was crowned the Unsung Hero of the Year Award at the MBNA North West Football Awards on Monday evening. 

Frank, who has worked for the Trust for over a decade, is heavily involved with Wigan Athletic’s disability football teams, and drives the team to games as they compete in the Greater Manchester Ability Counts League.

Frank is passionate about disability football and the opportunities for everyone being equal, and is a member of the Greater Manchester Ability Counts Football League committee.

After picking up his award, Frank said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have won the Unsung Hero. To actually be acknowledged for something you enjoy doing is just fantastic. 

“The event was incredible and I was obviously was very excited to be attending. To just be with the Wigan Athletic table to see how their good work is coming together was just fantastic. It was a pleasure to be with them.
