Latics under-18s draw 1-1 with Morecambe as Tom Powell's goal is cancelled out late on.

  • Wigan Athletic U18 1 - 1 Morecambe U18
  • Tom Powell opener cancelled out by Paul Dawson.
  • Second consecutive draw for Nick Chadwick's side.
Latics’ under-18s were held by Morecambe at Christopher Park on Saturday as a rare off day for Nick Chadwick’s side saw chances missed and a number of mis-placed passes prove frustrating.

Tom Powell had given Latics a second-half lead, though, but Paul Dawson levelled 17 minutes from time to frustrate the hosts, who had shown recent improvement before their back-to-back draws in the past fortnight.

Second bottom Morecambe restricted Latics to few opportunities in the game, though Chadwick’s side did have the more clear-cut chances before the game’s opening goal as Callum Lang had a free header over the bar in the first half before Charlie Forecast headed onto the top of the bar in the second.

Latics’ goal came midway through the second-half as in-form Powell finished for his fourth goal in as many games after being played in by under-15 Joe Gelhardt, who superbly played a first time ball over the top after winning the ball back in midfield.

The lead lasted just five minutes, though, as Dawson fired in the rebound after Jordan Perrin saved the initial Shrimps effort.

Latics: Perrin, Plant, White, Hilton, Forecast, Beaumont (Golden 87), Donaghey (Downey 71), McGuffie, Powell, Malumo (Gelhardt 58), Lang.
Subs: Roberts, Randell.
