Almost 400 boys and girls attended the Trust's Soccer Schools, Dance Camps and Halloween Party
Almost 400 boys and girls from across the borough enjoyed an action-packed week of activities with Wigan Athletic Community Trust during October half-term, with hundreds of young children joining in with the fun at our Soccer Schools, Dance Camps and Team Latics Halloween Party.
Latics Soccer Schools and Dance Camps, which took place at four different locations in Wigan, were a real success, with a particular highlight being the visit of first team players Shaun MacDonald and Jake Buxton to our Soccer School at Standish High School on Tuesday afternoon.
Throughout the week, junior football fans had the opportunity to perfect their play with Wigan Athletic Community Trust coaches, whilst playing hours of football matches. In addition, the Dance Camps gave boys and girls the chance to learn new skills in a fun environment.
Shaun said: “It’s always great to give something back to the local community. I remember when I was a kid having players coming in and learning something off them, so if we can give these children some positive feelings then we’ve done our bit.”
On Thursday 27th October, Team Latics hosted their annual Halloween Party at the Marquee in the North Stand at the DW Stadium, with Yanic Wildschut and Jordi Gomez entertaining the 70 young children by taking part in a number of themed games and activities.
Yanic said: “Jordi and I both had such a great time with the young fans. Halloween isn’t celebrated as much in the Netherlands as it is over here, but it’s a really fun event and one which I enjoy a lot. Some of the costumes were brilliant, and very, very scary!
