Gilbey injuries not as bad as first feared.

  • Injury update on midfielder Alex Gilbey.
  • Latics' midfielder picked up ankle and knee injury against Fulham.
  • Gary Caldwell delighted, saying 'it's positive news'.
Speaking ahead of Latics' trip to Preston North End on Friday evening, Gary Caldwell delivered some positive news regarding the injury of midfielder Alex Gilbey following Saturday's clash with Fulham at the DW Stadium.

Gilbey, who joined Latics in the summer from Colchester United, suffered a double injury to his ankle and knee, departing the contest in the 31st minute, but Caldwell says it's not as bad as first feared.

"He's had his scans and it's all good news.

"We were worried that it could have been a really bad one.  He's had a twist to his ankle and his knee, the full extent of which we're not entirely sure on just now, but so far it's positive news.

"It looked bad on the day because he's been strapped up and taken off on a stretcher, but thankfully it's not as bad as it looked.

"I've no doubt Alex will work really hard to be back as soon as possible, that's the character he is and I'm sure our supporters have seen that from him already this season."
