Powell 16, 30

Latics were left frustrated by Accrington Stanley on Saturday after a Tom Powell double had Nick Chadwick's 2-0 ahead before half time, only for the visitors to recover for a share of the spoils in a 2-2 draw at Christopher Park.

Powell made it six goals in his last four games with his third brace of the season, but second half mistakes helped Accrington back into the match to deny Latics their first EFL Youth Alliance victory of the season.

Latics were cruising in a first half which saw Shane Donaghey make a big impact on his return from injury, with the midfielder and his team mates working hard to win the ball back in the build-up to the opening goal.

A quick transition from midfield allowed Nathan Randell to slide Powell in on goal from 18 yards and with the 18-year-old's confidence flowing from his recent form it was a simple finish for 1-0.

Powell was on target to double the lead on the half hour mark, latching onto Jack White's flick on before another cool finish.

The visitors pulled a goal back when confusion between Tom Hilton and his goalkeeper Jordan Perrin saw the eventual clearance ricochet back of the Stanley striker for 2-1, before Accrington grabbed their equaliser when a testing delivery saw defender Tylor Golden slice the ball into his own goal.

Latics: Perrin (Roberts 77), Golden, Taylor, Hilton, Stubbs, McGuffie, Plant (Malumo 46), Donaghey (Fitton 46), Powell, Randell (Jolley 77), White
