If you ever dreamed of a debut for Wigan Athletic, Jason Roberts was the man who lived it! He kicked off Latics' 4-2 victory over Preston North End in January 2004 within 35 seconds of his first appearance in a blue and white shirt, rounding off a sweeping move to flick Gary Teale's cross elegantly past Jonathan Gould, sending thousands of supporters into a frenzy behind the goal.

Dickson Etuhu attempted to spoil the party on the half an hour mark with his equaliser, but Latics quickly swept the hosts aside re-taking the lead through Nathan Ellington on the stroke of half time, before Gary Teale rifled in a third, with the Duke making it four minutes later.

Graham Alexander's late penalty was a mere consolation on a day to remember for Roberts and his team mates who made it six straight unbeaten matches at Deepdale, a run which was to be extended to seven the following season.
