WIGAN ATHLETIC v CARDIFF CITY
SKY BET CHAMPIONSHIP
SATURDAY 22nd APRIL 2017
Latics defender Dan Burn says the belief within the squad is excellent but that everyone will have just one thing in mind ahead of the big game versus Cardiff – getting the three points . He says that with the fans behind them, the players can get the job done.
ON CARDIFF CHALLENGE
It’s a massive game, we know it is, and we’ve gone into every game over the past few weeks knowing that we have to win. The pressure is what drives you on.
Training’s been great this week, the lads believe they can win and in the Championship, you go into every game with the belief you can win.
Graham has got us buzzing as a squad again and it’s up to the senior pros to keep the lads focused on the only thing that matters, getting the three points, keeping the boys relaxed and focused.
Cardiff are a good team, they’ve improved massively through the season and I’m sure Neil Warnock won’t let them come and just be in holiday mode, he’ll be looking to finish the season on a high and we’ll have to watch for that because they can play with a bit of freedom.
We’ve got to want it more on the day, that’s what it boils down to.
We came close but it was always going to be tough down there, we were really disappointed in the way we defended the goals but in the Championship the teams that are at the top are those who take their chances when they come along. That’s what we haven’t been doing this season and paid the price.
We were able to make those margins go our way against Rotherham and Barnsley, and we need to do the same again on Saturday.
ON NICK POWELL
The ability he’s got is amazing, we see that in training, and It’s up to Graham to decide if he’s ready to start or not. You just know that when he comes on, he’ll make things happen and that gives the whole squad belief with what he can do.
ON THE REST OF THE SEASON
We really do have to approach these games one at a time, it’s a cliché but we just need to concentrate on Cardiff. We’ve analysed them and the staff will come up with a game plan – and as long as we stick to that, win all those individual battles on the field and have the desire, then we know we can win.
ON THE SUPPORTERS
I thought the atmosphere at the end of the Barnsley game was amazing, when things like that happen, there’s so much energy flying about the stadium and it helps the players massively.
I know we’ve not given the supporters a lot to shout about this season but that’s in the past now, we need you all to be there on Saturday and really give us the extra step by getting behind us again.
