Wigan Athletic’s under-18 side saw their four-game winning run come to an end after a 2-2 draw at Bury on Saturday afternoon.
Shane Donaghey scored two penalties in the second-half to draw Latics level, stretching Nick Chadwick’s side’s unbeaten run to 12 games.
Bury went ahead after 38 minutes as a corner from the left wasn’t dealt with by Latics’ defence.
Their second came in first-half stoppage time from a nice chest and finish, as again Latics failed to deal with a direct ball towards their penalty area.
Just after the hour mark, Luke Burgess was fouled in the box and Donaghey stepped up to convert his first penalty.
On 85 minutes, a handball was spotted inside the Bury penalty area and Donaghey again made no mistake from the spot.
Under-16 Divin Baningime had a chance to score late on but didn't get direction on his header after Joe Downey had a decent effort saved by the Bury goalkeeper in the second half.
A good response to come back from 2-0 with a team including a number of under-16s, in a game in which Bury could have had a couple of men sent off for bad fouls and off the ball incidents.
Latics: T. Roberts, Golden, White (B. Roberts 30), McGuffie, Hilton, Downey (Cotter 73), Randell, Merrie, Malumo, Jolley (Donaghey 46), Burgess (Baningime 73)
