Jordan Flores has joined Chesterfield on loan for the rest of the season, rejoining former manager Gary Caldwell at the Proact Stadium.
The 21-year-old featured heavily in pre-season but has not played in Sky Bet League One for Latics this season.
He did play in the Carabao Cup victory over Blackpool, against the side he was with during the second half of last season and helped gain promotion back to League One.
Latics manager Paul Cook said: “Jordan is a good player but he needs game time and we are confident he will get that at Chesterfield. We feel the move suits his development more than playing occasional minutes here. We will be monitoring his progress.”
Flores came through the ranks at Latics, making his league debut in the final game of the 2014-15 season at Brentford. To date he has played 12 matches for Latics in all competitions, scoring twice against Fleetwood in League One in September 2015 and against Blackpool in the Carabao Cup this season.
He signed a new two-year deal at Latics in July.
