Wigan Athletic have signed former Republic of Ireland forward Noel Hunt on a season-long deal following a successful trial period with the club.
The 34 year-old was with Paul Cook at Portsmouth last season, appearing 24 times, and the Latics manager is delighted he is linking back up with a player he knows well.
He said: “Noel is a top pro whose experience, commitment and quality has already started rubbing off on the squad. He’s a player who trains as he plays, at 100% level, and he will make a significant contribution on and off the field.”
Hunt has played over 350 league games in a career which started in his native Ireland with Shamrock Rovers before he moved to Dunfermline Athletic and Dundee United, from where he found a route to England at Reading. He played 162 times for the Royals before spells at Leeds United, Ipswich Town, Southend United and Portsmouth. He has faced Latics playing for Reading, Leeds and Ipswich.
