Ahead of the opening Sky Bet League One fixture of the 2017-18 season at Milton Keynes Dons, Sam Morsy has been named as Wigan Athletic Captain, with Dan Burn being made Club Captain.
The 25-year-old previously wore the armband for Paul Cook at Chesterfield and the Latics boss said he has every confidence in the Egyptian international stepping up to the plate.
“Samy is a player I know very well,” he said. “I trust him, he is a natural leader who plays with passion and desire and is a great motivator to those around him. He leads by example.”
2016-17 Player of The Season Dan Burn has been named as Club Captain and will deputise if Morsy is unavailable or off the field, and again Cook had positive words to say about the 25-year-old Geordie.
He said: “I met Dan for the first time when I came to the club and it was clear to see from the first training session he is another natural leader who commands respect by the way he trains, plays and generally carries himself.”
