iFollow Latics spoke to Spanish youngster Victor Maffeo from the club's under-18 side after he made his first team bow aged just 16 on Tuesday night at Blackpool in the Checkatrade Trophy.
Talking to the iFollow Latics after the game, Maffeo, who hails from Barcelona, said:
"It was a great moment for me; a great experience and I am very happy.
"I just enjoyed it; my Mum said don't get nervous, just enjoy and have the best time ever.
"I was close to scoring; I would have kissed my tattoo of my family's initials in my celebration had I scored.
"I was a little bit nervous with all of the pepole here watching and it was a really anxious moment for me when I went to take the penalty because I had been waiting, but it was a dream come true for me."
Maffeo has been over in England for nearly three years and, after his first taste of senior football, he is looking for more:
"It has been hard leaving my family in Spain and all of my mates but the staff here have helped me with everything and I know I have them as friends," Maffeo added. "I am very happy at the moment with the club and the staff.
"It would be always great for me to play with the first team - not it is time to keep going."
