PRE-MATCH BUILD UP

Latics welcome Charlton Athletic to the DW Stadium on Friday evening for their final fixture of the calendar year, hoping to see out 2017 by extending their unbeaten run in Sky Bet League One to seven matches.

Paul Cook’s side have impressed in the league so far, scoring 49 goals in 23 matches and collecting 16 victories and 14 clean sheets as they sit four points clear at the top of the table.

Charlton’s recent fortunes are stark contrast to Latics’, dropping out of the play-off places after a run of six matches without a victory.

TEAM NEWS

There are no fresh injury concerns for Paul Cook’s side, but the same can’t be said for the visitors who have 17 players side-lined heading into 2018.

As reported by London News Online, forward Ricky Holmes is the latest to join Karl Robinson’s long list of absences, with other first team players Billy Clarke, Lewis Page, Tarique Fosu-Henry, Jake Forster-Caskey, Chris Solly, Patrick Bauer, Leon Best, Mark Marshall and former Latics defender Jason Pearce all in the treatment room.  The Addicks also have eight of their under-23 players out, with Josh Umerah, Louis Yamfam, Kenneth Yao, Taylor Maloney, Mikhail Kennedy, Archie Edwards and Regan Charles-Cook unable to plug the gaps left by first team injuries.

POSITION

Latics – 1st
Charlton Athletic – 9th

Despite being held to a 0-0 draw at the DW Stadium by Shrewsbury Town on Boxing Day, Latics remain firmly in the driving seat at the top of Sky Bet League One, four points above their last opponents Salop, and five clear of third place Blackburn Rovers, who cut the gap from seven with their 2-0 win against Rochdale on Tuesday.

The Addicks are heading the other way.  Their current run of six matches without a win has seen Charlton drop from automatic promotion rivals to ninth in the table, behind Rotherham United, Portsmouth and sixth placed Peterborough United.

HEAD-TO-HEAD RECORD

League: Latics 4 wins, Charlton 4 wins, 1 draw – 12 scored, 10 conceded

Latics’ home record: 3 wins, 1 defeat – 8 scored, 6 conceded

You have to go back to the 2013-14 season for Latics’ last home victory over Charlton, and even then they left it late, with Marc-Antoine Fortune equalising two minutes from time, before Jordi Gomez’s exquisite free kick earned all three points in stoppage time.

Our leading scorer in clashes with the Addicks is former Senegal international Henri Camara with four.  Camara scored our first ever Premier League hat-trick against Charlton in a 3-0 win in December 2005, before adding to his tally in Paul Jewell’s side’s 3-2 victory at home the following season.
