Wigan Athletic have signed the former the former Denmark Under 20 goalkeeper Jakob Haugaard on loan from Stoke City until the end of the season.
The 24-year-old stands at 6'5" and is highly regarded at the Bet365 Stadium and goes into the squad for the Emirates FA Cup Third Round tie against Nottingham Forest.
Following the injury to Adam Bogdan, Latics manager Warren Joyce has been searching for a goalkeeper to provide competition for Jussi Jaaskelainen and he said: “It’s clear we need another goalkeeper and Jakob is a highly regarded young keeper and a terrific prospect.
“Jussi has been excellent but we obviously need competition for places and we are delighted Jakob has come on board. “
Haugaard was signed by Stoke City in 2015 from Danish Premier League side FC Midtjylland and has so far appeared five times for the Potters’ first team in the Barclays Premier League, along with the two Emirates FA Cup appearances also under his belt.
