Wigan Athletic can confirm that Jordi Gomez has ended his second spell at the club by sealing a move to Rayo Vallecano in the Spanish Segunda division.
Latics manager Warren Joyce said, “Prior to my arrival here Jordi had asked whether he could go back to Spain if something came up in this transfer window and we wish him all the best.”
Gomez said himself: “Wigan Athletic will always be a club so close to my heart because of what has happened in the past, and I want to say goodbye and thank you to all the supporters.”
Gomez signed back for Latics last summer following his release from Sunderland, having also played at Blackburn last season on loan. He has started 12 matches this season in the Sky Bet Championship, scoring twice, at Norwich City and at Rotherham United.
In total, he made 179 appearances in a Latics shirt in all competitions having initially signed in 2009, and leaving in 2014.
