WIGAN ATHLETIC  v HUDDERSFIELD TOWN
DW STADIUM
SKY BET CHAMPIONSHIP
MONDAY 2Nd JANUARY 2017
KICK-OFF 3.00pm

We caught up for a quick chat with manager Warren Joyce at the Wigan Athletic training ground this morning (Sunday) as he got himself and the players ready for tomorrow's (Monday) Sky Bet Championship match against Huddersfield Town at the DW Stadium.

ANOTHER BIG TEST FOR US AGAINST A TEAM IN FORM?
“Yes, Monday is a big test, but that’s true for both sides. They’ve had a slightly longer rest with the early kick off, but not much.

“They might have more players to choose from, and they might be able to swap and change within the squad but really, it doesn't really matter once you start the game. Like I said prior to Derby, we need resilient players who are up for a challenge, and we showed a really good attitude in that respect at Derby.”

HAVE YOU HAD A CHANCE TO STUDY THE THREAT THEY POSE?
Our analysis will be the same as for every game, despite the quick turnaround. The staff were in early this morning to put together all the information after Derby and to get ready for this match. It places a big strain on us but we’ll be prepared come kick-off.

“The players were shown the clips and the areas where we feel we can enjoy success, as we do before every game.

“As I said, they will have more players to call upon so you don't know exactly what personnel they've got available or will use when the games are so close together. But that is something we cannot control and will deal with on the day.”

THE PLAYERS MUST SURELY BE ABLE TO TAKE CONFIDENCE FROM THE DERBY PERFORMANCE
“Yes the players performed well at Derby but this is a completely different game; every scenario is different really in terms of us being the home side now and the only thing we are looking at is our own consistency in terms of how we approach our games, challenge ourselves to maintain those standards and to have the attitude of wanting to get better match by match.

ANY INJURY UPDATES?
It's too early to say if we get anyone back in time for Huddersfield but we had to play Shaun (MacDonald) at Derby when he wasn't 100%. Of the others we'll see, but although it's a real problem, in another way, it's not one I can pay too much attention to in the short term because I want the players who are fit to be 100% focused on meeting the challenge of playing full on when it comes to putting on that shirt and representing the club.

FINALLY A QUICK MESSAGE TO THE FANS?
“Firstly, on behalf of everyone at the club we need to wish our supporters a Happy New Year, and we need everyone to come together to try and make it a good start to 2017 on the pitch.

“Huddersfield will have a decent following and it should be a really good atmosphere. The fans have kept getting behind the players home and away and have been brilliant, we need another big effort from everyone, because it makes a real difference to the players, gives them that extra belief, when they feel the supporters are behind them.”
