Walton on signing for Latics…
“I’m absolutely delighted to have signed for Wigan Athletic. It’s a club going in only one direction which is back to the Championship so I wanted to get on that journey.
“I know the experience manager Paul Cook has within the EFL too, obviously doing really well at Portsmouth so hopefully he can do the same here. I’m really looking forward to working with him.
“He’s told me to come in here and do what I can, and hopefully he’ll have a big part to play in my progress at the club."
Walton on his loan experience…
“I had my time at Luton last year and played the games that were needed, so to get the new deal at Brighton is massive for me because it’s given me that security. I now need to push on and have another good year here and see what happens from there.
“It’s massive for any young player to get out and play games because it’s the only way you’re going to learn. You’re obviously playing at different stadiums and have the fans behind you, and there’s so much to it and you’re just learning about so many different situations.
Walton on this season’s aims…
“There’s a good group of lads here at Wigan with some unbelievable quality, and we’ll be pushing to definitely be in that top six come the end of the season.
Walton on his strengths…
“My calmness and authority in the box are probably my biggest strengths, as I’m obviously using my height to come and command crosses. Joining the club on loan though means I can improve my all round game in general and I can’t wait for the year ahead.
Walton on Friday night’s game against Liverpool…
“It’s going to be a good test for us on Friday night against Liverpool. I know it’s a pre-season fixture but we’re all going to take it seriously so it should be a good one.
Walton on Brighton’s first season in the Premier League…
“There’s a great deal of excitement at Brighton at the moment because they’re building up for that first home game against Manchester City which will be a nice welcome to the Premier League. I’ve loved every minute of my time there because it’s a great club, so to sign a four-year-deal there is great for me and I hope they have a good season."
