LATICS’ CHECKATRADE TROPHY GROUP CONFIRMED

Latics set to face Blackpool, Accrington Stanley and Middlesbrough’s U23 side in Checkatrade Trophy Group B.

  • Wigan Athletic find out Checkatrade Trophy opponents.
  • Latics face Blackpool, Accrington Stanley and Middlesbrough’s U23 side.
  • Latics kick-off competition with a trip to Blackpool on the week commencing 28th August.

Wigan Athletic will face Blackpool, Accrington Stanley and Middlesbrough’s U23 side in Group B of the 2017-18 Checkatrade Trophy.

Latics will kick-off their return to the competition – which they won in 1985 and 1999 – with a trip to Blackpool on the week commencing Monday 28th August.

Middlesbrough’s U23 side then visit the DW Stadium on the week commencing Monday 2nd October before Paul Cook will see his former side Accrington Stanley visit the DW Stadium on the week commencing Monday 6th November.

Full fixture and ticket details will be confirmed in due course.

Please note the dates for each fixture are provisional and could yet change.

2017-18 COMPETITION FORMAT

  • The top two clubs qualify from each group qualify for the Second Round.
  • In the event of a drawn game after 90 minutes, a penalty shootout will be held with the victorious team gaining an extra point.
  • Round Two will remain regionalised with Group winners at home against a second placed team from a different qualifying Group.
  • Round Three will remain regionalised.
  • Quarter-Finals will be drawn without geographical restriction (no regionalisation);
  • If scores are level after 90 minutes, all knock-out rounds will be decided by penalties except for the Final, which will have extra-time and then penalties.
