- Perkins won all the Player of The Year Awards League One title-winning campaign.
We are delighted to confirm that David Perkins has agreed a one-year extension on his current deal, until the summer of 2018.
The 34-year-old midfielder played 29 times in all competitions in 2016-17 after winning all the Player of the Season awards in 2015-16, having missed just one league game in his first year at the club.
Vastly experienced and versatile, new Latics manager Paul Cook is happy the player has confirmed he will be staying on for another season:
“Every squad needs its senior players and David is one of those players every club needs,” Cook said. “As far as the division goes, he’s been there and done it, he clearly keeps himself very fit and I’m sure he’ll continue to be a great asset to the club.”
Perkins originally signed for Latics in the summer of 2015 from Blackpool and, such was his impact, he was offered an additional season ahead of the 2016-17 campaign.
The Heysham-born midfielder has now played over 625 career games in all competitions, starting at his local club Morecambe before enjoying spells with Rochdale, Colchester United, Chesterfield, Stockport County, Barnsley and Blackpool before joining Latics two years ago.
