LATICS ASSISTANT MANAGER SPOKE TO LATICS PLAYER HD IN ADVANCE OF THE TRIP TO EWOOD PARK TO FACE BLACKBURN ROVERS

GB on Warren Joyce
“It’s a much more serious situation being sat here with you this time because when it concerns somebody’s health it’s alarming. I’m not trying to say when somebody has been sacked it’s not serious, but this is much more personal to Warren and his family.

“I spoke to him this morning though and he’s kept in touch with us all from his operating bed almost which is just typical of him. He’s feeling a bit better but he’s not quite right yet to come into training. We did see him shortly yesterday and he didn’t suffer a setback as such, but he was feeling really tired afterwards.

“Warren, Andy and I have been in regular contact, like we are before any game, and it’s dead easy to be able to speak to Warren because he’s so accessible, even after something as serious as this.

GB on an intense period coming up
“I know there was a little bit of discontent after last week’s game, but we’ve only lost one out of our last four and if we carry on in that vein it’ll see us safe hopefully. We know we’ve got to turn a couple of the draws into wins, so if we can get a couple of wins this week then we’ll be in there fighting.

GB on approaching big games
“It’s the mentality that’s got to be right. If you look at the Burton game for example, even in the first couple of minutes you could see the mentality was bang on and I felt from then that we were going to win that game, that’s how significant it is.

GB on experience in the squad
“Our experienced players have been leading the team so well, and touch wood defensively we’ve been quite sound and are always given ourselves a chance to win games. If we do that then we have to take that opportunity and that’s the most important thing.

GB on fans’ support at Blackburn
“The fans have always got a role to play, and if you go back to the game earlier in the season at Cardiff when I had to take charge, I said about the Wigan supporters that day and if you give them something to shout about they’ll be right behind you. The players have to show passion for the game and to win the game, and if they do that they’ll be right there.
