A Mwiya Malumo double, as well as strikes from Tom Powell and Bradley Roberts, secured a 4-0 victory for Latics’ under-18s at Tranmere Rovers on Saturday afternoon.
Strike duo Malumo and Powell had Latics two goals to the good at the break before under-16 Roberts added a third and Malumo made it four in the closing stages.
It’s now nine unbeaten for Nick Chadwick’s side since their FA Youth Cup exit to Southampton and they’ll be looking to take their form into the EFL Youth Alliance Cup national final against AFC Bournemouth at the end of the season.
Malumo had Latics in front in this game after just four minutes as he headed in Jamie Cotter’s left foot cross from six yards.
After 37 minutes, more good play from Matty Taylor down the left result in a right foot cross that Powell headed in for his 23rd competitive goal of the season.
Four minutes after coming on, under-16 Roberts met fellow substitute Callum Lang’s delivery at the near post for 3-0 before another Lang assist saw Malumo race through and finish to add Latics’ fourth.
A dominant performance for Chadwick’s side, made even more impressive the involvement of under-16 players Roberts, Will McGuffie, James Berry and Charlie Jolley.
