- Match Report: Latics v Bradford City
- Charlie Wyke netted the game's opener before Chey Dunkley equalised.
- Substitute Tyrell Robinson earned the visitors all three points late on.
Wigan Athletic slipped to their first home league defeat of the season this afternoon as they were narrowly beaten at the DW Stadium.
Stuart McCall’s men went ahead through Charlie Wyke after 14 minutes before Dunkley headed home from a corner for his third goal of the season.
Substitute Tyrell Robinson won the game for the Bantams in second half injury time as his strike from the left flew past Jamie Jones.
Latics were unchanged from their last league game against Blackburn Rovers, with Michael Jacobs recovering from his recent thigh injury to return to the side.
Paul Cook’s side started the game strongly, and Nick Powell was thwarted on the edge of the box as his low strike was blocked by a visiting defender.
In reply, Wyke wasted a good opportunity for the Bantams inside the area while Nathaniel Knight-Percival volleyed over at the back post.
The visitors went ahead just before the quarter hour mark when Wyke bundled home from close range despite Jones’ best efforts.
Captain Samy Morsy later saw a shot cleared off the line however Latics did find a leveller through Dunkley who powered a header home from a corner.
Wyke then struck the bar before Jacobs stung the palms of keeper Colin Doyle with a thunderous drive from distance.
In the second period, Ivan Toney went close while substitute David Perkins drew a save out of Doyle with a header at the back post.
Dan Burn then denied Paul Taylor a certain goal as he superbly blocked his side footed effort inside the box.
With quarter of an hour remaining, Jacobs and Toney both shot off target as Latics were restricted to efforts from distance.
Robinson struck late on though as his fierce effort from 20 yards beat Jones in the Latics goal.
