SCUNTHORPE UNITED V WIGAN ATHLETIC
SKY BET LEAGUE ONE
GLANFORD PARK
SATURDAY 30 SEPTEMBER 2017
KICK OFF 3.00pm

PRE-MATCH BUILD UP

Latics have won five of their last six Sky Bet League One games, but only one of those wins has come away from home and a trip to Scunthorpe United poses a difficult assignment for Paul Cook’s side, who will be looking to strengthen their grip on an automatic promotion spot in Sky Bet League One.

Back-to-back home wins against Plymouth Argyle and Walsall stand Latics in good stead, with Saturday’s game pitting the two best defences in League One against one another.

With the exception of Peterborough United (22) and Rotherham United (21), Latics are the highest goal-scorers in the third tier, but they will have to work hard to break down an Iron backline which has conceded just five goals in 11 games – former Latics Matt Gilks starring between the sticks for Graham Alexander’s side.

HEAD TO HEAD RECORD

Latics haven’t lost on their last four visits to Glanford Park, a run stretching back to 1996 when the Iron defeated John Deehan’s side 3-1.

That was only one of three defeats in 12 visits, though, with Latics also winning 7-2 at Scunthorpe on our way to our first-ever Football League promotion in the 1981-82 campaign.

On our last visit, we drew 1-1 as Michael Jacobs cancelled out Luke Williams’ opener in January 2016.

Paul Rogers
