Paul Cook's men pick up important three points at Bloomfield Road as David Perkins and Chey Dunkley get off the mark for

  • Report: Blackpool 1 - 3 Wigan Athletic
  • David Perkins scored his first goal for the club on his 83rd appearance whilst Chey Dunkley scored twice to open
  • Win extends unbeaten run to six games.

A brace from Chey Dunkley and a goal from David Perkins earned Latics all three points in terrible conditions at Bloomfield Road this afternoon.

The Seasiders went ahead early on through Kyle Vassell as he capitalised on a defensive error to poke past Jamie Jones at the near post.

Dunkley equalised though in first half stoppage time when he stabbed past Ryan Allsop in the home goal before netting again early in the second half.

Substitute David Perkins put the game beyond doubt late on when he finished confidently inside the area to score his first goal for the club.

Paul Cook named an unchanged side to the team that drew 1-1 at Gillingham on Tuesday night, with Terell Thomas replacing the injured Will Grigg on the bench.

Blackpool started the better of the two teams and took the lead in the eighth minute as Vassell took advantage of a mistake at the back to score from close range.

The poor weather conditions meant chances were at a premium; Michael Jacobs had Latics’ best opportunity when he headed against the post midway through the half.

Nick Powell later sent a volley over, but deep into first half injury time Dunkley was on hand to level things up by finding the net inside the six yard box.

The turnaround was complete after the break when Dunkley was on target again for Latics as he slotted past Allsop inside the area.

Backed by the brilliant travelling support, Latics were growing in confidence and had efforts through Powell and Ivan Toney.

Gavin Massey then went close to adding a third but his strike hit the post, however substitute Perkins sent the fans into raptures by sealing victory in the 81st minute.
