Wigan Athletic’s under-18s won for a fifth consecutive game as the beat Fleetwood Town in the EFL Youth Alliance on Saturday.

Victor Maffeo grabbed a 95th minute winner for Latics with the game heading for a draw, helping Nick Chadwick’s side to continue their fine recent run.

They went behind, though, when Tom Hilton’s clearance was intercepted and fed through into the box where a combination of challenges from Hilton and Joe Downey resulted in a soft penalty given, which was converted by the hosts.

A Downey free kick was headed in by a Fleetwood player into his own net early in the second-half, with the game looking set for a draw.

However, Latics won it in the 95th minute as nice footwork from Will McGuffie played Tylor Golden in on the left, his cross saw Mwiya Malumo fouled in the box and Maffeo smashed home the resulting penalty.

Latics: Perrin; Plant, B. Roberts (Golden 82), Hilton, Smith (Long 73); Culshaw (Maffeo 75), McGuffie, Downey, Baningime, Jolley (Berry 82); Malumo.
