- Final qualifier against Ghana to take place in November
Wigan Athletic captain Samy Morsy was part of the Egypt squad as they secured a place at this summer’s FIFA World Cup in Russia, with a 2-1 win over Congo at the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria.
Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah scored twice for the Pharaohs, the latter a match-winning stoppage time penalty, as Hector Cuper’s side secured their spot at the finals for the first time since 1990.
Morsy will now hope to feature in the final qualifier against Ghana in November, as Cuper runs the rule over his squad ahead of the finals next summer.
Elsewhere, goalkeepers Owen Evans and Matija Sarkic were in international action last week, being part of Wales and Montenegro’s respective under-21 sides.
Evans was an unused substitute as Wales kept up their good start to qualification for the 2019 UEFA European U21 Championships with a 3-1 in Liechtenstein.
In the same competition, Sarkic played the full 90 minutes as Montenegro lost 2-1 to France.
His side play their second game of the international break on Tuesday night against Slovenia.
