PC on travelling down to Gillingham today
We’re going to get on the road as quick as we can this morning because it will be a tough journey with the weather, so the sooner we get there the better and it means we can rest up and look forward to the game tomorrow night.
PC on current form
Things are going well for us at the moment and the lads are in a good place. We’re playing well and key decisions are going for us in games. We all know how quickly things can change though so we’ve got to keep working hard and keep going.
PC on Gillingham
It was great for Steve (Lovell) to go in as caretaker and pick up a result that probably nobody expected them to get. It was a thoroughly deserved result for them on the balance of play so they’ll be going into the game tomorrow very much buoyed by that. They’ll be looking at it with great optimism but for ourselves it’s an opportunity to go down there and keep our record going.
PC on an unpredictable league
I think all leagues are getting tougher now in general. Teams are a lot more organised these days and the analysis and sports science side of things is massive. It’s rare to see huge scores these days because of this, and I think it’s only Manchester City who seem to be able to do it to everybody, but certainly at our level teams are very equal in a lot of things. It comes down to key moments in games and that’s when you need your squad.
PC on Gary Roberts
I’ve had Gary with me now for about four of five years and I’m fully aware of the quality the lad has not just as a footballer but as a person too. He’s started two games for us against Northampton at home and Scunthorpe away and we’ve won both games and he’s been dropped twice, so it just shows what playing well does for you at this club! He knew exactly the part I wanted him to play when he came in and he’s knocking on the door right now to start games.
PC on Ivan Toney and Will Grigg
Ivan and Will are sharing the load up top for us and our supporters all know that. Ivan has been watching a couple of games now probably longer than what he wanted to, and it’s the same for Will really because with Noel Hunt backing them up too we have three strikers who have the ability to swap and change. We think we’re very lucky to have those three players as our attackers and we have full belief in the whole squad.
PC on the importance of the experienced players in the squad
Too many people have bad attitudes in football today and we don’t make nice people anymore, we make very arrogant lads who think they know everything about the game. We’re lucky that we’ve got Alex Bruce, David Perkins, Gary Roberts and Noel Hunt in our squad, and let me tell you something, they all want to play. They have such a desire to play but around that there’s also an acceptance that we want to have success together.
