The fixture marked the launch of the year-long partnership with The Brick.

  • The Brick is a homeless charity based in Wigan town centre.
  • Wigan Athletic will be supporting the charity's Rebuilding Lives campaign.
  • Supporters raised over £800 and donated food and toiletries.

Latics supporters helped to raise over £800 for The Brick, the club’s official charity partner for the 2017/18 campaign, at last Saturday’s home game against Bristol Rovers at the DW Stadium.

The fixture marked the launch of the year-long partnership, with players warming-up in branded t-shirts, match day collections and a half time presentation on the pitch. Supporters also brought food and toiletries which were collected in banks at the DW Stadium.

The Brick is a homeless charity based in Wigan town centre, and helps people living on the streets to rebuild their lives. Every month, it supports almost 400 people across the borough who are affected by poverty or homelessness, offering them food, shelter and training.

The year-long partnership will see the club support The Brick’s Rebuilding Lives campaign, which aims to raise £75,000 in 12 months to help people in the community to construct new lives.

Jonathan Jackson, Wigan Athletic Chief Executive, said: “The support shown to The Brick by the club’s fans last weekend was outstanding. We want to help reduce poverty and homelessness in Wigan and Leigh through the Rebuilding Lives campaign, and aim to help The Brick make a real difference to people on our doorstep, so we hope the money raised will go a long way in doing that.”

The Brick will operate alongside permanent official club charities Wigan Athletic Community Trust and Wigan Youth Zone.

Kathleen Pitt, The Brick Chief Executive, said: “We were amazed by the donations received at last Saturday’s game and it was a truly fantastic day for the charity. On behalf of The Brick I’d like to thank everyone for their support and we look forward to working with the club this season.”
