- Latics’ under-18s kick-off EFL Youth Alliance campaign with a win.
Latics’ under-18s got their EFL Youth Alliance campaign off to a flyer with a 4-1 win over Walsall on Saturday.
Charlie Jolley scored twice whilst Mwiya Malumo and Mitchell Culshaw were also on the mark as Nick Chadwick’s side produced a clinical display.
Malumo got the ball rolling on 19 minutes as he received the ball from Divin Banigime before finishing right-footed from just outside the box.
It wasn’t until just after the hour mark Latics got their second, though, as goalkeeper Jordan Perrin played a great ball out to Tylor Golden, who linked up with Banigime down the left to cut back for Jolley to finish in the box.
Two minutes later, Joe Downey played a good pass into Culshaw and he played the ball to Jolley in the box to score again.
Walsall got a goal back 15 minutes from time but Latics’ fourth came on 77 minutes as Culshaw played a one-two with Malumo before driving into the box and scoring.
A dominant performance from Latics, who could have had more goals whilst goalkeeper Perrin also made some smart reaction saves when Chadwick’s side did come under pressure.
Latics: Perrin, Plant, Golden (Roberts 73), Obi, Hilton, Downey (McGuffie 82), Maffeo (Culshaw 46), Cotter (Monoghan 65), Malumo, Jolley, Banigime.
