Midfielder David Perkins left disappointed on his first league start of the season as Latics lose 3-2 at Peterborough United.
- REACTION: David Perkins on Latics’ 3-2 defeat at Peterborough United.
- Perkins made first start in Sky Bet League One this season.
- Perkins: “The phrase a game of two halves applies to that match.”
Latics midfielder David Perkins rued his side not taking their chances as they were made to pay at Peterborough United on Saturday afternoon.
Perkins felt his side should have had the game wrapped up by half-time in his post-match assessment.
“It’s disappointing,” he said. “We scratch our heads; the first half performance was excellent but the phrase a game of two halves applies here
“In the second half it turned, we conceded three goals when the game should have been put to bed in the first half.
“We learn from this and come back better on Tuesday.”
Perkins made his first league start of the campaign in the defeat at the ABAX Stadium and he says it’s important Latics bounce back on Tuesday night against Plymouth Argyle and start a run similar to the three consecutive victories they produced following their last defeat at Shrewsbury Town.
“It was nice to get back out there,” he continued. “But disappointing to lose and not get three points.
“The reaction is important, after Shrewsbury we got three back to back wins and we’ll be looking to do that again,
“The manager said that to us in the changing room let’s not be too disappointed, let’s just get back to winning ways.”
And Perkins finished by stressing his disappointment at the fact Latics let down their strong travelling support with the result.
“The fans were top drawer like they are at all the away games, it’s very disappointing for them and we can only apologise.”
