13 September 2017

Winger Gavin Massey reflects on a good night for him and the club after Charlton brace.

  • Gavin Massey scores twice for Latics against Charlton Athletic in Sky Bet League One
  • Massey with goals either side of half-time
  • “I’ve got confidence in my own ability but it takes some pressure off”- Massey

Latics’ double goal-scorer Gavin Massey reflects on a good night’s work as he scores his first goals for the club and Latics win for the first time at The Valley.

GAVIN MASSEY ON SCORING TWO GOALS
It’s been a long time coming, it feels like I’ve had a few chances over the last few weeks, then I had an early chance today in the game but it’s nice to get the two goals and it takes a lot of pressure off you.

GAVIN MASSEY ON THAT EARLY CHANCE
To be fair it was quite a difficult chance, it flashed across the box and I caught it late and being overly critical I should have probably scored but it’s nice to still be confident to get the two goals.

GAVIN MASSEY ON CONFIDENCE
I’m learning from quality players around me, this is a big step up in my career, obviously I feel like I deserve to be here but when you see Crackers (Michael Jacobs), Powelly (Nick Powell) and all those players in training day in day out you only learn off them. I’ve always been confident in my own ability and I knew it would come

GAVIN MASSEY ON THE TEAM PERFORMANCE
Considering we didn’t play to the best of our ability on Saturday, it was different class today from minute one of the first half and we continued it for 90 minutes.

GAVIN MASSSEY ON BOUNCING BACK
We were so disappointed with ourselves on Saturday, we didn’t give a good account of ourselves but we’ve worked hard since and we started well so the boys felt confident from minute one.

GAVIN MASSEY ON MAKING A STATEMENT
They’re a good side and we wanted to make a big statement, that we could kick on after a defeat and that’s what we have done so now we’re looking to go again on Saturday. The fans were great today, it was a tough journey for us yesterday, seven hours and it must have been long for them. They pushed us all the way so we hope they get home safe.

GAVIN MASSEY ON TWO HOME GAMES NEXT
We’ve been good at home, even against Portsmouth we were different class and we’re looking to continue that, we’re full of confidence so hopefully we can get six points from the two games.
