  • “I’m delighted for the boys tonight”- Paul Cook

Latics manager Paul Cook was delighted with a hard-earned three points as Latics made it three in a row with victory over The Cobblers.

PC ON ANOTHER WIN
It’s one of the most pleasing wins of the season for me after we had the extra game with the international break, Northampton have done smashing since Jimmy came in, with them changing managers they’ve been on a good run and it was always going to be a difficult game. But I thought we showed really good patience in the game, we created really good opportunities to score.

PC ON TWO OUTSTANDING MOMENTS
Michael Jacobs’ finish was absolutely top draw but Jamie Jones needs to get a mention for an absolutely outstanding save but all in all, I think we deserved winners tonight and to get a clean sheet and a 1-0 win, it’s really pleasing, I’m delighted for the boys tonight.

PC ON NORTHAMPTON
They’re a good side, Jimmy’s going to be a good manager, he knows exactly what he’s doing, they were very difficult to break down and were a threat with the players they’ve got. Our lads had to defend and we had to change shape late on. We did it at Charlton and we thought it worked well and we did it again with Max coming on and sitting a bit deeper than Samy and Lee.

PC ON THE DRESSING ROOM
The atmosphere is very good at the minute and I’m not talking just about the lads who are playing but about the squad, there’s a nice buoyancy about them. We’ve only played eight games, we’re not stupid, it’s important that lads want other lads to do well and I feel that’s one of the most important parts of the game.

PC ON BEING PATIENT
The crowd must play their part and they were excellent tonight, they really were. The visiting teams will want the game to go flat, with stoppages and the referee is under pressure because we all want every decision but the lads controlled the game tonight and injected pace and tempo when we needed to.

PC ON DAN BURN
If Dan had finished off that move it would have been golden. I want to give Dan a special mention because I thought he was absolutely outstanding tonight.

PC ON THE TEAM
I’m really pleased for them. I’m delighted after we bounced back from Shrewsbury. In football you get a lot of criticism quickly and a lot of it is unjust because everyone loses games but the most important thing is what you do to rectify it and these lads to date have been a pleasure.

PC ON GARY ROBERTS
Gary’s such a talented boy, he’s been fantastic for me over the last four years, being involved in the success we’ve had and coming here tonight I thought he was excellent, him and Will Grigg were a constant threat, the work rate from the front was great and I’m really pleased for Gary. He’s just asked me if my watch had stopped because I left him on too long, he was obviously feeling it.

PC ON THE WIN
I’m just delighted, it’s a good win, people expect you to win but it’s nowhere near as easy as people expect, and tonight the lads did great. A good game now at Peterborough and we’re looking forward to it.
