We have a look at how our players out on loan fared on Saturday afternoon.
- Jack Byrne and Chris Merrie get goals for respective new clubs Oldham and Southport
- Donervon Daniels, Josh Laurent, Luke Burke and Callum Lang all make debuts for new clubs.
- Jordan Flores and Andy Kellett continue to feature for Gary Caldwell’s Chesterfield.
Thank you to Julia Urwin from Southport FC for the photo of Chris Merrie.
It was a dream start to Chris Merrie’s loan spell at Southport as the Latics academy graduate marked his first appearance with a goal in a 2-0 win over Darlington in the National League North.
Merrie scored in third minute of added time for Alan Lewer’s side after former Latics youngster Chris Sang put the Sandgrounders ahead.
They now sit third in the National League North table, facing a trip to 10th place Stockport County on Tuesday night.
Like Merrie, Jack Byrne got off the mark on his new club, scoring on his second appearance for Oldham as they lost 4-3 at home to Charlton Athletic in Sky Bet League One.
Ricky Holmes and Tarique Fosu-Henry put the Addicks 2-0 up before former Latic Craig Davies grabbed a goal back for John Sheridan’s side, who then equalised through Eoin Doyle.
Ousmane Fane was then sent off for Charlton and Karl Robinson’s side quickly took control with goals from Billy Clarke and Joe Dodoo.
Byrne scored a 20-yard drive eight minute from time but Sheridan’s side couldn’t get level and lost their fifth consecutive game.
Defender Donervon Daniels was also in League One action, coming on as a late substitute for new club Rochdale as they drew 0-0 at Southend United.
Daniels replaced Matty Done on 84 minutes after Keith Hill’s side had gone down to ten men earlier in the second-half as Ian Henderson was sent off.
Midfielder Josh Laurent played 90 minutes for Bury, making his debut for the Shakers as they lost 1-0 at home to Scunthorpe United.
Josh Morris scored on the 86th minute for Graham Alexander’s Iron side, with Lee Clark’s Bury now 18th in League One.
Jordan Flores and Andy Kellett
Jordan Flores started and Andy Kellett came off the bench as Gary Caldwell and Graham Barrow’s Chesterfield drew 0-0 with Coventry City at the Proact Stadium.
The Spireites held on to a 0-0 draw after losing Robbie Weir to a second-half red card, with Flores playing the full 90 minutes and Kellett coming on as a 67th minute substitute.
Callum Lang made his EFL debut as a second-half substitute for Morecambe in their 2-1 defeat at home to Accrington Stanley.
Jim Bentley’s side fell behind to Billy Kee’s goal and then had Vadaine Oliver sent off before Lang’s introduction.
Jordan Clark made it 2-0 on 90 minutes before Kevin Ellison got a goal back for Morecambe deep into stoppage time.
Sam Stubbs was an unused substitute for Crewe Alexandra as they lost 1-0 at Grimsby Town.
Mitch Rose scored the only goal of the game for Russell Slade’s side as Crewe dropped out of the play-off places.
Academy graduate Luke Burke impressed for AFC Fylde but was on the losing side on his debut as the Coasters lost 2-1 at Halifax Town in the National League.
Danny Rowe actually gave Dave Challinor’s side the lead but Tom Denton’s double turned the game around for the Yorkshire side.
