Find out how Latics' out-on-loan players fared this weekend.
- Academy graduates Luke Burke, Callum Lang and Jordan Flores get match action.
- Donervon Daniels makes first start for Rochdale.
- Josh Laurent, Andy Kellett, and Jack Byrne get EFL action.
Donervon Daniels made his first start for Rochdale on Saturday afternoon but was on the losing side as Keith Hill’s Dale went down 3-0 to Blackburn Rovers at Spotland.
Richie Smallwood gave Tony Mowbray’s side a first-half lead before goals from Marcus Antonsson and Danny Graham wrapped the three points up in the second-half.
Daniels played the full game.
Also in League One, Jack Byrne helped Oldham Athletic to a first point of the season at the sixth attempt as John Sheridan’s side drew 2-2 with Fleetwood Town.
Oldham went ahead through former Latic Craig Davies but Ash Eastham levelled for Uwe Rosler’s side. Byrne’s former Manchester City colleague Kean Bryan scored his first Oldham goal for 2-1 before Ash Hunter kept Sheridan’s side at the foot of the League One table with his 93rd minute penalty seeing the spoils shared.
Bury’s Josh Laurent was the other Latics player in League One action, as he played 90 minutes for the Shakers in their 3-2 defeat at Rotherham United.
Kieffer Moore twice put the Millers ahead but Jermaine Beckford and Nathan Cameron twice levelled for Lee Clark’s side.
Richie Towell got the winner a minute from time for the hosts at the New York Stadium, though, with Bury now sat 19th in the table.
Jordan Flores, Andy Kellett & Sam Stubbs
Three Latics players were in the squads as former Latic Gary Caldwell saw his Chesterfield side hammered 5-1 by Crewe.
Jordan Flores played 90 minutes for the Spireites with Andy Kellett playing 79 minutes as a Chris Porter double and goals from Perry Ng, George Cooper and Callum Ainley helped the Alex, who had Sam Stubbs as an unused substitute, up to fourth in the League Two table.
Callum Lang played the last 14 minutes from the bench as Morecambe lost 2-0 at Notts County.
It was Lang’s second substitute appearance for Jim Bentley’s side as the Magpies continued their good start to the season thanks to goals from Dan Jones and Jonathan Forte.
Luke Burke featured for AFC Fylde in the National League as they produced a superb comeback to earn a 2-2 draw with Bromley.
Frankie Sutherland and Josh Rees gave Bromley a 2-0 lead but the hosts scored through Serhat Tasdemir and Danny Rowe to earn a 2-2 draw.
