Speaking to iFollow Latics following his 20th clean sheet in all competitions this season, Christian Walton described the feeling of capturing promotion at Fleetwood Town and earning a new club record for league clean sheets in a single EFL season alongside fellow goalkeeper Jamie Jones.
Walton has now kept 18 clean sheets in League One this season, with Jones earning the other eight, but the 22-year-old Brighton & Hove Albion loanee says it's completely a team effort.
"I'm absolutely delighted to be part of promotion with the boys and to help set a new club record.
"Getting injured at the start of the season wasn't good, but Jamie (Jones) stepped in and did a terrific job. It's been a real team effort.
"The clean sheet record is something for us to celebrate collectively. We know the strength and depth that we've got within the team, so it has made our job a lot easier because of the back four that we've got at the club."
Having a steady central defensive partnership in front of you is key to any goalkeeper's record, but Walton has been particularly impressed with his centre backs and their goal scoring exploits at the other end.
"We've been a threat all season when we attack set pieces and it's a massive bonus to have that in our game when we're at the top of the table.
"It was good to see Dan and Chey on the score sheet again, it shows just how good a season they've had together."
