EARLY TEAM NEWS: FLEETWOOD TOWN V WIGAN ATHLETIC

19 April 2018

The latest fitness and injury news ahead of Latics' trip to Fleetwood Town.

  • Team news: Fleetwood Town v Wigan Athletic.
  • Nathan Byrne and Nick Powell both missed victory over Oxford United.
  • Cian Bolger and Kevin O'Connor recent injury concerns for the Cod Army.

FLEETWOOD TOWN

John Sheridan made three changes to his Fleetwood Town side for their Fylde Coast derby against Blackpool last weekend, with defender Cian Bolger ruled out through injury and replaced by Nathan Pond. The Cod Army switched up their forward options by bringing one former Latics loanee in for another, with Conor McAleny taking Jordy Hiwula's place, whilst Paddy Madden came in for Bobby Grant.

Cian Bolger

Cian Bolger missed the Fylde Coast derby.

Preston North End loanee Kevin O'Connor remains missing from the squad following an injury he picked up in mid-February.

WIGAN ATHLETIC

Paul Cook was without wing back Nathan Byrne (for just the second time this season in Sky Bet League One) and playmaker Nick Powell for Tuesday's 1-0 victory over Oxford United. Byrne was rested as a precaution due to a tight hamstring, with Powell missing out through injury.

Nick Powell

Nick Powell sat out Latics' 1-0 win against Oxford.

Latics made four changes for the clash with the U's at the DW Stadium, as James Vaughan, Gary Roberts, Jay Fulton and Ryan Colclough came in for the aforementioned duo, striker Will Grigg and winger Gavin Massey.

Christian Walton kept Latics' 25th league clean sheet of the season to equal the club's all time record for clean sheets in a single campaign, meaning another shutout at Fleetwood would break John Filan's record from the 2002-03 title winning season, whilst equalling the record for clean sheets in all competitions, also set in the 02-03 campaign at 29.

Walton has kept 17 of Latics' league clean sheets this season, with Jamie Jones collecting eight.

Should he keep his place, midfielder Fulton would be making his 150th career appearance.
