Wigan Athletic is offering two free tickets to current and former armed forces service people to the home game against Rotherham United on Saturday 14th April 2018.

The fixture has been designated as a Football 4 Forces celebration and before kick-off there will be a range of free activities for families outside the stadium led by different parts of the Armed Forces.

For the past three years the club’s charity, Wigan Athletic Community Trust, has provided weekly football and sport sessions to the Armed Forces community in Wigan, helping participants to improve their health and gain new skills. Prior to the game, a special six-a-side football tournament will be held at Robin Park Arena for the members of the project.

Football 4 Forces is part of the club’s commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community in Wigan, and at half time club Chief Executive Jonathan Jackson will re-sign the Armed Forces Covenant.

As part of the Covenant, the club agrees to continue to back the Ticket for Troops initiative which provides match tickets for serving personnel, support Armed Forces based charities through match day collections and support employees who have spouses and partners in the military.

Jonathan Jackson, said: “Wigan Athletic were delighted to be one of the first clubs in the North West to pledge its support to the Armed Forces Covenant in 2015 and we’re proud to be re-signing it so we can continue to show our appreciation to the military personnel in the area.

He added: “The work the Community Trust do to improve the health and life chances of veterans in Wigan is inspiring, and the Football 4 Forces programme helps to reduce risks such as mental health and social isolation, issues veterans are more likely to have than the general public.”

The Red Devils, the official parachute display team of the British Army and The Parachute Regiment, will parachute into the stadium and present the match ball to the officials before kick-off, while at half-time the Royal Marines will abseil from the East Stand.

Activities outside will include displays from representatives from the British Army, Royal Marines and local military groups, while youngsters can enjoy a climbing wall, face painting and football inflatables with refreshments and an outside bar also available.

Lieutenant Colonel JG Lighten MBE LANCS, said: “On behalf of the Ministry of Defence, we’d like to thank Wigan Athletic for hosting such a comprehensive event to support the forces community, regular and reserve, veterans and their families in such a well organised manner.”

To claim your two free tickets please email by stating your name, address, phone number, email address and service number. You will then be able to collect your tickets from the East Stand Ticket Office from 1pm on the day of the match. All requests must be made by 1pm on Friday April 13th 2018.
