LOAN REPORT: ANDY KELLETT SCORES FOR CHESTERFIELD AND CHRIS MERRIE'S ALTRINCHAM EDGE CLOSER TO PROMOTION

18 April 2018

Andy Kellett on target but Chesterfield slip towards relegation, whilst Chris Merrie makes his first league start in Altrincham's 0-0 draw at Buxton.

  • Loan report: Chris Merrie makes first start for Altrincham as the Robins edge closer towards the Northern Premier League title.
  • Andy Kellett on target as Chesterfield fall to 2-1 defeat at Exeter City.
  • Sutton United remain four points inside the play-offs despite defeat to Maidenhead United.

Catch up with our young stars in midweek action on loan in Sky Bet League Two, the National League and the Northern Premier League.

ANDY KELLETT - CHESTERFIELD

Chesterfield's time in the EFL might be coming to an end soon, but Latics playmaker Andy Kellett has been doing his best to keep their hopes of League Two survival alive in recent weeks. The 24-year-old was on target against Exeter City on Tuesday evening, but it proved only a consolation as goals from Jayden Stockley and an own goal from Alex Whitmore gave the Grecians a 2-1 victory.

The defeat for the Spireites means they remain bottom of League Two on 35 points, seven points behind third from bottom Grimsby Town, knowing a victory for Grimsby or anything less than a win for Chesterfield would see Jack Lester's team relegated to the National League.

TERELL THOMAS - SUTTON UNITED

Hoping to swap places with Chesterfield for next season are Terell Thomas' Sutton United. The Yellows suffered a 2-1 defeat away at Maidenhead United on Tuesday, but they remain fourth in the National League and four points above eighth place Wrexham with just two games left to play.

A play-off campaign looks most likely for Thomas, with the defender set to play a big part for Sutton as his run of 90 minutes continued against Maidenhead.

CHRIS MERRIE - ALTRINCHAM FC

Midfielder Chris Merrie made his first league start for Evo-Stik Northern Premier League leaders Altrincham FC, completing the full 90 minutes as the Robins drew 0-0 away at Buxton.

The point pushes Altrincham ever-closer to a return to the National League North, but they'll have to wait another week to secure the title after Warrington Town's 2-1 victory over Shaw Lane closed the gap to five points behind league-leading Alty.
