Latics continue to lead the EFL Youth Alliance thanks to a hefty 4-0 victory over Fleetwood Town on Saturday, as Victor Maffeo, Mwiya Malumo, Joe Downey and leading league goal scorer Charlie Jolley all hit the target.
Title rivals Rochdale sit five points behind Nick Chadwick's side with three games in hand, but Latics continue to do their job with impressive performances.
Spanish full back Maffeo gave Latics the lead from the penalty spot inside the opening 15 minutes. Tylor Golden linked up with Maffeo in the build up before the right back was upended for the spot kick.
Twenty minutes later and Latics doubled their lead when Malumo turned the ball in from 12 yards. Anthony Plant switched play to Maffeo on the left who released Jamie Cotter, with the midfielder picking up on a mistake between Fleetwood's centre back and goalkeeper, allowing him to slide the ball across for Malumo's finish.
Latics sealed the result in the final 10 minutes when Joe Gelhardt and captain Downey played a one-two on the edge of the area to allow the latter to find the bottom corner, before substitute Jolley made it 4-0 with three minutes to play
