Speaking to iFollow Latics following the club's promotion clinching 4-0 victory over Fleetwood Town on Saturday, Latics boss Paul Cook said he couldn't picture a more fitting day to reach the club's goal with three games to play in Sky Bet League One.
"I just can't think of a more fitting day," Cook began.
"It was perfect in terms of the weather, the crowd, everyone here to watch. We were always waiting on other results, but I have to heap all of the praise on my players and staff.
"It's been a long season and the staff have been absolutely outstanding, they're so professional in everything that they do and that leads into the players who put on some performance in front of our away support.
"For our chairman and the Whelan family who have done so much for Wigan Athletic, it's a great day for us all.
"Football is about history and all clubs have history, it's not always good and being a supporter is part of that ride, but we've had an absolutely outstanding day and I can't wait to get back to Wigan and celebrate with all of our fans.
"We've got 93 points now and another clean sheet. We've had so many outstanding things happen, but until you get over that line you achieve nothing. We're over that line now, so we've got time to pat people on the back and there are so many that I need to do that to.
"We'll keep the emotions with us now after an outstanding performance in perfect conditions to help us cap a promotion which is great for us all.
"I'm going to take time with the people close to me, my family, my wife, my kids, my Mum and Dad, we're really going to enjoy a few weeks after the season has finished to take it all in."
On his staff, Cook added:
"I can't speak highly enough of my staff, Nick (Meace), Proc (Andrew Procter), Leam (Richardson), Nick Colgan, Anthony Barry has joined us, Stuey the kitman, Adam in our analysis department. You're lucky to have these people. Managers will stand in front of you all the time, but without good support from your staff, you're nothing.
"On the flip side, what can I say about the players? From hearing so many stories when I came in about dressing rooms and bad eggs and all of the above, there's been none of that at this club this year.
"The players have been tremendous and to cap it off with a result like this makes me so proud."
On celebrating and Latics' aims for the final three matches, Cook continued:
"We're going to enjoy the night, but it's important we respect the game on Tuesday. This weekend we can let our guard down and enjoy it with our fans because it's huge to be promoted.
"We're three points above Blackburn now with a strong, superior goal difference, so we'll go to Bristol Rovers and then hopefully win the league against AFC Wimbledon at home, but if that's not to be then we'll just keep going.
"The icing on the cake is winning the league, so let's just try and do that as well."
