‘Superman’ has agreed a permanent transfer to Premier League Brighton & Hove Albion for an undisclosed fee, but will remain with Wigan Athletic until the January Transfer Window commences.

  • CONFIRMED: Wigan Athletic defender Dan Burn signs for Premier League Brighton & Hove Albion for an undisclosed fee.
  • Burn, who had 12 months to run on his existing Latics contract, will stay at the DW Stadium on loan until the January Transfer Window commences.
  • Wigan Athletic manager Paul Cook: “It is very difficult to stand in the way of a player who has an opportunity to play in the Premier League at a very good club.”

Wigan Athletic can confirm that defender Dan Burn has signed for Premier League Brighton & Hove Albion for an undisclosed fee.

Burn will, however, stay at the DW Stadium on loan until the January Transfer Window commences.

The defender, 26, is affectionately known by Latics fans as ‘Superman’ having been a standout performer in his two seasons with the club after he signed from Fulham in 2016.

To date, Burn has played 97 games in all competitions for Latics and he will get the chance to pass the century mark at the DW Stadium before he moves to the South Coast in January.

Wigan Athletic manager Paul Cook said of Burn’s departure:

“It is very difficult to stand in the way of a player who has an opportunity to play in the Premier League at a very good club like Brighton and Dan is very deserving of that chance.

“I am delighted for Dan and equally pleased he will be here until January; he’s got a bit of a knock at the moment which will keep him out for a short period of time but he will continue to be a great asset to us when he returns.”
