Latics continued to find the back of the net in pre-season on Saturday, putting three past Evo-Stik League West side Colwyn Bay thanks to a double from Joe Piggott and a superb winning goal from full back Tylor Golden.

Having already put three past Welsh opposition on two separate occasions against Llandudno FC and Rhyl FC, Latics came into the game off the back of a 2-2 draw with Rangers FC's Under 23s and were flying with confidence.

The victory also provided match minutes for Shaun MacDonald who continues to gain game time having not featured since the pre-season 1-1 draw at Chesterfield last month.

MacDonald was a calming influence in Latics' midfield and carried his experience well alongside Merrie and Smith.

Latics found an opening four minutes into the second half to take the lead, Golden sparking a counter attack to find Callum Lang in space on the half way line. Lang turned and fed Piggott into the area, with the striker's persistence paying off when he followed in his own rebound to beat a covering defender to the loose ball to finish.

Piggott doubled his tally and Latics' lead two minutes later, with Lang yet again creating the opportunity. Lang's pressure on the Colwyn Bay defence forced another loose ball in the area, allowing him to square the ball for Piggott who tapped in from six yards.

The visitors pulled a goal back from a long ball over the top before the hour mark, but Latics pushed themselves back to a two-goal advantage when Ryan Galvin raced up the left side and cut a pass across for Golden to whip into the corner of the goal from the edge of the area.

Colwyn Bay grabbed themselves a second from a late penalty, but Latics held on to ensure another pre-season victory ahead of their next pre-season fixture against Huddersfield Town in September.

Latics: Lavercombe, Golden, Galvin (Trialist 68), Trialist (Isherwood 72), Smith, MacDonald, Trialist (Asgaard 76), Merrie (Capt), Piggott, Lang (McWilliam 80), Trialist (Monaghan 55)
