News of two returns for Latics ahead of Saturday's home game against Nottingham Forest.
- Team News: Wigan Athletic v Nottingham Forest in the Sky Bet Championship.
- Gavin Massey and Nathan Byrne back available.
- Dan Burn and Darron Gibson continue to be sidelined.
Speaking to iFollow Latics at the Wigan Athletic Training Centre on Friday morning, Paul Cook revealed the news of returns for Nathan Byrne and Gavin Massey to his match day squad for Saturday's Sky Bet Championship clash with Nottingham Forest at the DW Stadium.
Massey, who featured in Latics' season opener against Sheffield Wednesday, has been absent for the last two matches against Aston Villa and Rotherham United, whilst Byrne has been missing through injury since the team's trip to Spain this summer.
Darron Gibson could remain sidelined, whilst Dan Burn's injury picked up against Rangers FC in pre-season continues to keep him out.
On whether performances from Latics' eight changes on Tuesday night at Rotherham in the Carabao Cup have given him food for thought, Cook said:
"We had some really good individual performances in the cup, that's what we've come to expect and what we demand from our players, so single performances in a cup game aren't necessarily going to shape the squad for Saturday, but it was good to be able to give lads match minutes who haven't played a great deal so far."
One man who will definitely miss Saturday's clash is Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Jordan Smith who was sent off during Tuesday's Carabao Cup win against Bury, with Luke Steele expected to make the bench behind Costel Pantilimon.
Michael Hefele, Sam Byram and Ryan Yates all made debuts on Tuesday and could be involved at the DW Stadium, whilst Joao Carvalho and Gil Dias are expected to return following a rest period in midweek.
